Match Of The Week: 02.24.07.

March 3rd, 2007.
Lucha Libre on Galavision

Hell Brothers: Cibernetico, Chessman & Charly Manson vs La Secta: Cuervo, Escoria & Ozz
*Lucha en Juala(Cage Match)*

All right, I don't think I've ever had a match from Lucha Libre win this award, but it's about time one has. I have recently become obsessed (no joke) with Lucha Libre (AAA and CMLL) as it just seems to be so much more than what any other wrestling is offering me right now. It's partly because it has a very sport-like side to the wrestling factor, but then when it does have theatrics they are just kind of over-the-top crazy and not too much into the actual complex drama like WWE some times likes to do. It just reminds me of when WWE would have characters like Papa Shango and you wouldn't ask "How?", you'd just be along for the ride and enjoy it.

In any event, this six man cage match ended a three hour long show that I watched over the weekend. As far as cage matches go, it was fairly decent. They had the usual bumps that you would expect to be taken inside of a cage. The reason why I named this Match Of The Week, however, is because of the finish. Let me set the stage for you.

Basically, it's down to Escoria and Chessman. Escoria set up a table in the corner, but then was speared through it by Chessman. Chessman then set up this table looking thing (which either had thumbtacks on it or was just dirty) on top of some chairs in the middle of the ring. You basically knew someone was going off the top of the cage and through it. Chessman started climbing, and Escoria followed. You knew the winner would be going down outside the ring and the loser would be going down back into the ring and onto that table set up.

As they're fighting, out comes La Parka. La Parka climbs up the cage and nails Chessman with a chair. Chessman takes the huge bump through the table that he set up. (Why is it that whenever someone takes the time to set something up, they're usually the one to go through it?) Escoria climbs down and wins the match for his team. As all this confusion is going on with La Parka being at ring side and helping out, all of a sudden... ANOTHER LA PARKA COMES OUT! Apparently, that first La Parka wasn't the real La Parka and, rather, this one is. The two La Parkas get into a little bit of a pull apart and the second one to come out manages to rip off the first one's mask (the one who did the chair swinging) to reveal none other than... PSICOSIS. Well, he was formerly Psicosis in WWE, but he's known here as Nicho because there's another Psicosis or Psychosis out there in Mexico still only under a mask. So tensions build between La Parka and Nicho as the show closes.

I can't explain it, but seeing the match was good enough up until the second La Parka (the real one) came out. That was just something like, "Wow, why can't the promotions here have stories this good?" But then when they revealed Nicho (Yeah, I'm going to have to get in the habit of calling him that now)... It was just such a surreal moment. It gave me that feeling where I go, "That right there is match of the week!". Nothing else made me feel that way this week.
