Match Of The Week: 02.10.07.

Febrary 15th, 2007.

WWE Thursday Night RAW

Johnny Nitro & Melina vs. Super Crazy & Mickie James

While this week was kind of odd for wrestling, not too much stood out in my mind. On Monday, RAW was pre-empted in favor of a dog show, so TNA aired a two hour special called "This Is TNA". It only showed five pay-per-view matches though, which sadly don't qualify for this, as opposed to actually putting on an entirely new and original show. (Thus showcasing what TNA could do with a two hour time slot)

ECW continued their new breed rivalry and that of the Lashley vs. some loser wrestler series. C.M. Punk fought, but I forget against whom.

Thursday- Smack Down!'s old night- took on RAW. While we had Donald Trump in a wrestling ring talking with Vince McMahon, we also saw a main event featuring Rated RKO, Mr. Kennedy and MVP vs. Shawn Michaels, Batista, John Cena and The Undertaker. Smack Down! on Friday was the go home show before the throwaway pay-per-view No Way Out, and it featured a broken down version of the main event from the night before: Rated RKO vs. 'Taker and Batista; HBK & Cena vs. Kennedy & MVP.

Impact! had a pretty cool gautlet to determine the number one contender to Christian Cage's NWA World Title, but we all knew Samoa Joe was going to win. In fact, Samoa Joe will probably win the title and then feud with Kurt Angle over it, but you know... When the last three guys in a match are Samoa Joe, Tyson Tomko and Scott Steiner, it's pretty much guaranteed who will win. And classic booking rules state that it almost never- ehh-ehh- EVER- works in favor of the duo of heels trying to take out the one babyface. If Joe was eliminated by them, we would have seen Steiner and Tomko fight already? Not likely yet. Maybe in a few months there will be some decension amongst the ranks.

So why pick this match? Simple- I like all four participants and it played a somewhat interesting role in wrestling on a whole. Super Crazy has recently been said to be a given a push ala the movie Nacho Libre. Mickie James has been Women's Champion since we last saw Lita. They say Melina is in the proverbial doghouse for her backstage attitude and Johnny Nitro is being taken with her for a "guilt by association" type of thing, if you will. Yet, in this match, Nitro and Melina scored the win. Hmm... Interesting nod to the internet smarks (Myself included, I suppose)

Plus, anything involving Mickie James and Melina at the same time is far too good for me to pass up.

Oh yeah, and while Wrestling Society X was on this week, it didn't have anything really worth winning this spot. Sorry.
